Staff resources
Our company structure is well defined, with clear lines of management and communication. Our culture is to employ personnel with a wealth of professional and technical expertise, including health and safety, personnel, marketing, accountancy, quantity surveying, estimating and a central buying department. In our Construction division alone we directly employ over 250 qualified and experienced staff and our commitment to ongoing training sets us apart from many construction companies with over 90% of staff holding CSCS certification and all Site Managers undertake a 5-day Site Safety course.
In addition to our Head Office staff, we employ a large number of trades who work on-site, including bricklayers, joiners, gangers, general labourers and plant operatives and we directly employ our drivers. Over 75% of our gangers can read drawings and all are 'problem solvers' and we are proud to have a low rate of operative turn-over; 85% have been with us for over 10 years and they all appreciate the Story 'can do' ethos.
Everyone in the company has a firm belief in providing a job to the client's satisfaction and, as such, all Story managers take full ownership of their projects and have a pride in their successful completion.

Training Centre
As the Story Group has expanded, the need for employee development and health and safety training has increased and prompted the set up of our own Training Centre, which caters for our employees and external organisations too. Our employees' personal development is testament to the ethos of the company, which encourages natural progression from within. Additionally, clients benefit from knowing our staff's skills and capabilities.
Our on-site training gives the benefit of having a central office controlling training records which can be easily accessed and provided to clients.

Plant resources
We own, operate and maintain all of our plant, which allows us to ensure reliability, availability and the highest standards of work. We currently have a fleet of 30 excavators ranging from 3-35 tonne, 4 dozers, a unimog and 10 multi-purpose excavators plus numerous dumpers telehandlers and rollers. All of our plant is maintained under a strict maintenance plan with regular inspections recorded on an in-house maintenance database. We have a ten-strong team of plant and service van fitters meaning we can respond to breakdowns quickly and carry out routine servicing on site with minimum disruption to site operations. An on-call or on-site fitter service can be provided.
We can also provide tipping and recycling facilities if your project requires it.
A large quantity of small plant and equipment including generators, compressors, pumps, concrete placing equipment, sawing equipment, cable avoidance and surveying equipment are available. See the Plant Hire pages on the Story Rail site for a comprehensive plant list including specifications.
