Story Group awarded internationally recognised OHSAS 18001
2nd March 2011
Story Construction Ltd and Story Rail Ltd today announced their pride in receiving certification for OHSAS 18001 – the internationally recognised Occupational Health and Safety Management standard, administered and issued by National Quality Assurance (NQA).
David Sanderson, HSQE Divisional Director said “the whole of our company has worked very hard to achieve this very important certification. Implementing an Occupational Health and Safety Management System will protect and reduce the risks to our employees and clients alike. OHSAS 18001 is compatible with our ISO 9001 (Quality) and 14001 (Environment) certification and will help us meet our Health and Safety obligations in an effective and efficient manner.”
This accreditation trio will most definitely put the company in a leading position for any customer seeking a contractor who can demonstrate total commitment to Quality, Environmental Awareness and Health & Safety. It gives Story Group a huge competitive edge going forward as they are in a small minority of contractors who can boast all three accreditations.
The areas addressed by OHSAS 18001 include: Planning, Risk Assessment, Management Programmes (including structure and responsibility), Training and Competence, General Awareness, Consultation and Communication, Operational Control, Performance Measurement, Monitoring and Improvement.
David added “This certification will be a great benefit to our business given the rigorous health, safety and legislative requirements of the construction and rail industries. An effective programme promotes a safe and healthy working environment by providing a framework that allows us to consistently identify and control our health and safety risks, reduce the potential for accidents, aid legislative compliance and improve overall performance.”
