The bridge and road is designed to stay in place for two years, in which time the new permanent bridges - Calva Bridge (this is a Grade II listed structure made unsafe by the floods) and Northside Bridge (swept away by the floods) - are planned to have been completed. This temporary bridge and road will be removed and the area reinstated to its former condition.

The 350t "Janson" bridge, shipped from Holland, is 67m long and 12m wide including the footpath and cycle-track; it is suitable to take vehicles of up to 44ft. The bridge was assembled on the south side of the river and pushed across to the north over one weekend.

Work was carried out seven days per week and finished ahead of programme.

Story Constructions work comprised the site stripping and road construction including drainage and ducting as well as the installation of a tensar retaining wall and new access in to Workington Reds Football Club. Works involved the placing of around 20,000t of stone.
