Monkseaton High School
State of the art secondary school in North Tyneside built by Shepherd Construction. The £20.3 million building is based on one of six secondary school designs commissioned by the Government as parts of its Schools for the Future Exemplar Design Programme in 2004.
The design, a futuristic oval shaped structure, was developed by Dewjoc architects and key features include the positioning of a sports hall in the centre of the building.
Shepherd Construction appointed Story Construction as subcontractor for various civils packages.
Phase 1 consisted of laying and diverting services to the perimeter of the new build school.
Phase 2 consisted of a new access road to, and around, the new build school. Paving and external lighting was also installed around the building including pre-cast feature units to the base of each steel bracing member.
Phase 3 consisted of carrying on the new paving across the site of the old, demolished school and associated landscaping works.
