Extension to Sands Leisure Centre, Carlisle

The works comprised a steel framed structure on a raft foundation with an in-situ mezzanine floor, slate roofing, facing brick walls, curtain walling and alterations and extensions to existing electrical and mechanical services.

The works were executed under a traditional contract although there were some elements of performance specified works.

Story Construction, as a main contractor, were responsible for numerous subcontractors including structural steel and decking, curtain walling, mechanical and electrical and specialist roofing. A confined site and the need to ensure that the existing fitness centre remained open throughout the works meant that the public interface requirements compounded the problems associated with an extremely tight programme.
