Coniston Hydro-Electric Scheme, Cumbria
This project was the re-establishment of a largely demolished Victorian Hydroelectric scheme for a private client.
The project consisted of the construction of the upstream intake works, installation of 700m of 450mm diameter HDPE delivery pipework and the construction of a new turbine house plus all of the associated MECIA works.
Our parts of the works included the construction of the RC Intake Works and the installation of the delivery pipework.
The project is located adjacent to one of the very popular, steep and narrow walks in the Lake District National Park and therefore is over extremely difficult terrain going up a mountain, with the intake works above. These constraints, together with the extremely sensitive environmental issues, made it a very challenging project to deliver on time and on budget. The project required detailed logistical planning to ensure that labour, plant and materials were in the right place at the right time.
