Newcastle International Airport Hotel
Works comprised the construction of basement floor slab and concrete retaining walls including waterproofing and a complete drainage system.
Below ground structures included two in situ lift shafts, basement low level plant room and car park ramp. Upper floors consisted of in situ concrete floors to suspended ground floor, 1st floor, 2nd floor, 3rd floor and roof. Specialist waterproof concrete was used in the construction of the basement floors and walls in order to accommodate office space beneath ground level.
Operations on this busy site involved working alongside numerous other trades and were constrained in part by the close proximity to the airport; including cranage restrictions if a low cloud base levels reduced visibility for incoming aircraft.
Initially contracted for 31 weeks work, Story Construction's scope of works was subsequently extended to include hard landscaping.
